SAC invites eligible students to participate in blood drive

Megan Mehta, Correspondent

On Tuesday, Oct. 31st, Student Advisory Council will be hosting its annual fall blood drive in partnership with Heartland Blood Centers. All of the blood donated will be going to local hospitals such as Edward Hospital in Naperville. Also, students who donate blood can save up to 3 lives in the community.

If students would like to donate blood they must be 16 years old, weigh 100 pounds, and have a signed parent permission slip. Unfortunately, students who have traveled out of the country in the last 365 days are not eligible to donate blood this year.

Permission slips can be found outside of Student Activities or at the end of this article. Be sure to sign up in the cafeteria, starting Monday, October 23rd during lunch hours. Students can sign up to donate blood whatever period they choose. Students should make sure to have their signed permission slips with them when signing up for donation. Click here to download a permission slip. This form must be printed out and signed to sign up for a donation time.

On the day of the blood drive, students should bring a photo ID; schools ID’s are acceptable. Heartland Blood Center recommends that students should avoid caffeine, and eat a big breakfast.

Students who sign-up to donate blood will receive a free entry voucher for Siegel’s Cottonwood Farm Pumpkin Fest. Students who are able to donate blood will also receive a $5 Subway gift card.

Get spooky this Halloween and donate blood!
