On March 13, the annual Staff vs. Student Basketball Tournament, organized by Red Rage, was held in the main gym. Each student team raised $100 to participate, benefiting the Naperville Area Humane Society and the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation.  Eight student teams participated in the tournament, hoping for a chance to beat their teachers. The event was well-attended, and the cheering of the crowd and the commentary of Barry Baldwin, communication arts teacher, created a lively atmosphere.

The students had five minutes per team to defeat the staff members. Unfortunately for the students, the teachers dominated the tournament, winning five out of the eight games.

Senior Claire Savard played on one of the teams that beat the staff, and she was glad for the win.

“I feel exhausted, super exhausted,” Savard said. “It was a fast game and I thought [the teachers] were going to get it there at the end! It feels really good [to win].”

At halftime, the Varsity Arrowettes performed their annual “Dad Pom”. The girls danced with their fathers to a medley of songs from the Grease soundtrack.

“My dad and I had a ton of fun, and the songs were my favorite,” sophomore Ashley Lady said. “It brought me and my dad closer!”

The preliminary tally shows that nearly $4,000 was raised, a success for the Central community.
