Theatre Central’s Coffee House talent show was performed on Jan. 23 and 24 in the Black Box Theater.
This event was organized by the Theatre Central executive board, and this year was produced by junior executives board members Ally Wolf and Ethan Chan.
“We had two performances that showcased a wide variety of acts, including pop solos, musical theater duets, poetry, stand up comedy and more,” said Wolf.
Coffee House was reinstated last year after being discontinued due to covid. It will now be continued as an annual tradition.
“The environment is so supportive and has such a fun atmosphere,” Wolf said.
Contrary to Theater Central’s other productions, coffeehouse has a much smaller audience, making each performance feel more personal. Audience members sit together at tables, in contrast with the typical seating at Central’s plays and musicals.
Coffee and food is provided, free of charge, and performers mingled with audience members during intermission.
“I would describe it as almost cozy,” said Chan. It’s this really great atmosphere where everyone is so supportive and accepting. People get to share their talents on a stage that doesn’t have a lot of pressure.”
Chan performed “Little Fortune” by Katie Lynne Sharbaugh with junior violist Katie Kim.
Wolf performed “Love Is an Open Door” with senior Maya Lukasik and “I’m Not Afraid of Anything” as a soloist.
“It was so amazing to get it started again for the second year and I’m really excited to see where it goes in the future,” Chan said.
