Yesterday, Central boys’ basketball defeated Streamwood by a score of 69-44 in the first round of the Wheeling Hardwood Classic at Wheeling high school.
Senior Nicky Lopez explained that it was great team play that led to the blowout victory.
“Yesterday was a great start to the tournament,” said Lopez. “Our team was clicking on all cylinders. We played very unselfish basketball and if we continue to play unselfish we are tough to beat.”
Not one player stood out significantly for the Redhawks. Junior Nick Czarnowski lead all scorers with 14 points, Lopez and junior Ryan Antony both finished with 11 points and senior Mike Blaszczyk added 10 points.
“We won this tournament last year and our team is hungry for another tournament win,” Lopez said.
The Redhawks (7-3) will take on Deerfield (6-5) in the second round of the tournament tonight at 7:15 pm at Wheeling high school.
