On March 20, Naperville Central’s girls varsity track and field teams finished first at the DuPage Valley Conference meet at North Central College. The team beat Neuqua Valley High School by seven points, ending with a 129.75 point total.
Junior Estella Czech finished first in the 55m run. In the hurdles 55m, senior Reese Henige finished second.
Following her previous success, Czech scored first place in the 200m, followed by sophomore Emily Tilton who got third. Senior Eloise Graft finished in first place in the 400m and also got first in the 800m finishing with the time of two minutes and fifteen seconds. Sophomore Carly Ernst finished second in the 400m. Sophomore Charlotte Danahy finished in first place in the 1600m.
In the relays, the Varsity Redhawks dominated the competition.
For the 4x200m relay, Redhawks junior Estella Czech, junior Valencia Ingram, junior Maya Stohner and sophomore Emily Tilton finished in first place with a time of a minute and 45 seconds. In the 4x400m relay, junior Keira Friant, senior Eloise Graft, sophomore Olivia Monteith and junior McKenzie Gettemy earned first place with a time of four minutes and 39 seconds.
In the field, the varsity Redhawks gave their best shot.
In the High Jump, freshman Kaavya Parameswar tied in fifth place with Metea with a jump of 1.37m. In the long jump, junior Maya Stohner finished fifth with a distance of 5.17m. In the Pole Vault, junior Jules Zelazny finished sixth with a height of 2.58m. In Shot Put, junior Piper Hill finished third with a distance of 9.24m. Finally, for the triple jump, junior Maya Stohner this time finished third with a distance of 10.86m.
The Redhawks put in the effort all season to win their trophy in DVC.
“Its a special moment,” head coach Phill Allen said. “Im just so proud of our kids, and I’m just so happy for our coaches. This was a complete team effort from everybody, and it took all 15 events.”
For the final 4x400m race from both junior varsity and varsity, which led to the Redhawks winning DVC, they all lined the track and cheered on the runners who gave their all into winning the relays.
“I just love the environment,” junior thrower Piper Hill said, who finished third in varsity shot put. “I love that we’re all able to come together to compete and win this meet.”
The win highlights Central’s depth and consistency across all events.
