Tina Dohm – Math teacher

Q: How long have you been working at Central and what positions have you held?

A: I teach algebra 2 and pre calculus. [I’ve worked here] 28 years all as a math teacher. I started December 1995 with a maternity leave and then was hired full time 1996-1997. I was an assistant math team coach from 1996-1999, and a long time [union] representative from 1997 to the present, 2010 to the present for senior class council, and a member of the high school executive for the union for six years.

Q: What are your plans after you retire?

A: My first plan is to finish my chemotherapy and surgery which will hopefully be finished by August. My husband is working for a few more years but I’m hoping to do more traveling and exercise. We are hoping to take vacations. Just trying to get healthy and relax. We don’t have any major plans until he retires. And my son’s wedding is next May.

Q: What are you going to miss most about Central?

A: I’m going to miss my coworkers a lot and I’m going to miss the students because not a day goes by that I’m not laughing at something they said, they kind of keep me young. I will definitely not miss the grading and tedious stuff. It was really hard leaving class that Thursday when I told my class it was my last day, that was not how I planned on going out. It was a great run, it was a second career for me and it was the right one for me to get out of business and careers. I hope I was a positive role model to even one student.

Dave Sladkey – Math teacher

Q: How long have you been working at Central and what positions have you held?

A: This is my 30th year, 37th year teaching, seven years before that [Central]. I’ve been in the math department the whole time. So, Algebra, Geometry, Algebra two, PreCalculus, Applied math, Intro to math, math support, all those classes.

Q: What are your plans after you retire?

A: Lots of travel. I love to travel. I love to bicycle. I have a couple of trips, one in Michigan. This year and then I’m going with my friend from Minnesota here to Chicago in September. That’ll be my first September I’m not going to be in school for my whole life, well, since I was in preschool, so it’s gonna be different, you know, to not be in school. I also have this dream to do 12 part time jobs, one per month.

Q: What are you going to miss most about Central?

A: The people, my colleagues, are unbelievable. I loved working with my colleagues and getting sharper just talking about teaching and the inner department talk. Just hanging out with each other with the same goals, It’s been just a joy. Our administration has been awesome. It’s an administration that asks for our input so when you get that you feel empowered.

Pete Kramer – Physical Education teacher and head boys basketball coach

Q: How long have you been working at Central and what positions have you held?

A: 33 years. I’ve been an assistant varsity football coach and an assistant sophomore football coach for a long period of time, probably over 20 years. I was sophomore basketball coach for 12 years and then head varsity basketball coach for 21 years.

Q: What are your plans after you retire?

A: A lot of traveling. I haven’t decided on doing too much yet. Maybe it’s maybe a little basketball coaching or doing something else.

Q: What are you going to miss most about Central?

A: I think Naperville Central is a great high school. I think we have great teachers. I think we have great administrators. But I think most of all, what makes up a great school is a student body. And I’ve had just a ton of great years where I’ve just had the kids make it fun.
