Athletic department unveils new app

Central’s Athletic Department unveiled a new app on Aug. 28, featuring game schedules and rosters for every Central sport at all levels.

The app, called “Naperville Central Redhawks” on the Apple App Store and on Google Play, includes a map of Central’s athletic sites (both on and off campus), links to important athletic  websites, trivia and giveaways for student athletic fans.

“We wanted to have everything at your fingertips,” Athletic Director Chris Kirkpatrick said. “The app is able to send out push notifications if you sign up for them, and you can follow all the teams or just specific ones you care about. And when a coach goes in and puts a score it’ll send a push notification. So it’s just a one stop shop that you can have on your phone.”

Central students can earn points for attending athletic events and playing trivia games, which can be cashed in for various rewards.

“Once [a student] gets enough points, [they] will get a note that says ‘come to the athletic office,’” Kirkpatrick said. “Every varsity contest is worth 10 points. We’re just encouraging people to go.”

Rewards include thunder sticks and pom poms for 100 points, a lanyard for 200 points, a drawstring bag for 300 points, and a t-shirt for 400 points. The app was developed via Snap! Mobile’s FanX service. Snap! Mobile also owns Snap (formerly known as 8to18), the website Central has used to keep track of athletic schedules and rosters for many years.
