Jessica Bogdan: Thoughts on cancelled school during cold days

For some, cold days are the days you have been waiting for. Sleeping in, watching shows and movies and doing pretty much nothing with your day can be quite appealing. Though for some, it is even more stressful than a school day. The idea of not having to go to school is a great one, but the cancelled school days in the winter are not simply lost, just changed.

So far, all non-seniors have to give up four days of summer vacation to make up for the four days off during this freezing weather. Some argue it is worth it to not have to go outside. But some students are still spending this blistering cold day out with friends.

If students actually go outside on these cold days off for no other reason than because they want to, should we just have school? I, for one, always support any opportunity to sleep in just as much as any bloke, but others may choose to spend their day off outside in the freezing cold for no legitimate reason.

The district must make a hard decision when considering whether or not to cancel school during periods of extreme weather. So, we have to ask ourselves if they made the right choice. Because if we don’t, who will?

Is it unfair to say we should have school because of the few students who will still go out and risk their health? I may not be one to say if it is or is not. You, however, can make your own conclusion. All that I know is that it is cold outside and, if you are anything like me, you will just sit on your butt all day listening to music covered with 20 blankets, you may be all for missing school.

But no matter what you decide to do during a cold day, I hope one thing remains: Stay warm, and don’t die of frostbite! Good luck Naperville.
