NAPERVILLE, Ill. – Police are currently investigating the S. Washington Parkside Marathon gas station break-in that occurred early this morning. Robbers dressed in black with masks, hoods and gloves shattered both the front and back doors of the gas station and took the money drawer of the cash register, an estimated $500-$700 worth of lottery tickets and two blow torches. Surveillance cameras confirmed that the thieves parked in the bank parking lot behind the gas station and carried the stolen goods to their car and left. No faces or fingerprints have been identified at this point.

Cashier manager Charlene Tobin said that this is the third break-in she has experienced over the last couple years working at this particular Parkside Marathon.

“I got to work at 6:00 a.m. and I didn’t even notice the door was broken,” Tobin said. “I came up, put my key in the door, but it was impossible to turn it. I would later find it was because the door had been so badly beaten the lock was broken as well. I looked at the door and saw the shattered glass and bottom busted out.”

Tobin proceeded to call the Naperville police department in addition to her boss and owner of the Parkside Marathon, Rick Jaracz.

“I arrived at my place of business as I had for the past 23 years with a sinking gut feeling after [receiving] the phone call,” Jaracz said.

So far the estimated cost of repairs is around $2,500, not including the stolen lottery tickets, according to Jaracz.

“I’m mad, but I don’t know who to be mad at,” Jaracz said.

The police blocked off the area as a crime scene for three hours this morning looking for evidence, and no one was permitted to enter until 8:30 a.m. today, according to Tobin. There are currently no suspects.
