One dead in Bolingbrook plane crash

Today in Bolingbrook, Ill. at 5:15 p.m., a small plane carrying two people crashed into a Chase Bank parking lot at 262 S. Weber Rd. The passenger was pronounced dead at the scene and the pilot is critically injured. An eyewitness was reported on seeing the pilot exiting the scene of the crash covered in flames. He was transported by helicopter to Loyola Hospital in Chicago where he is receiving medical attention, according to NBC.

The plane originated from Scott County Marshall Field in Georgetown, Ky. and crashed into a tree, a light pole and several vehicles before plummeting into the Chase Bank parking lot. The aircraft’s intended destination was Clow International Airport, according to ABC.

Senior Katelyn James witnessed the crash site.

“The scene was really intense,” James said. “There were cars that had been hit with windows gone and stuff like that. I got there at around 6:30 [p.m.] and there wasn’t an ambulance, just a fire truck.”

The dead passenger was carried under the blue tarp (pictured below) at first and later taken out covered by a white sheet, according to James.
