U.S. News ranks national universities

With seniors beginning to decide which colleges they would like to go to, U.S. News and World Report released a set of lists to help make their decisions easier.

On Sept. 13, U.S. News and World Report released an updated list that ranks national universities, from one to 195. According to their website, these rankings are based on several things such as freshman retention, graduation rates, and strength of faculty.

The website offers a variety of information about the colleges, such as tuition, popular majors, rankings of certain programs and information about student life on campus. People are able to read and write reviews of the colleges they attend.

The site also ranks specific programs of each school, high-schools, grad-schools, international universities, and online education programs. There are also a list of scholarships available for each college, similar to Naviance.

While rankings only go up to 195, there is information on over 1600 different colleges. The University of Illinois at Urbana Champaign is currently ranked #45, while Illinois State University is ranked #160.

Using this website is free, but you can buy a subscription for additional information about each college, such as available scholarships. A full subscription costs $19.95.
