Alison Pfaff: Spring fashion preview

With the grueling weather, it seems like all of us are stuck in our winter parkas and beanies, but fear not; spring is coming! Spring 2014 fashion week showed some great and interesting trends including metallic, pink, pastels, black, white and much more. Here are some ideas about incorporating elements of the trends, without having to buy a new wardrobe!

The Pantone color of 2014 is radiant orchid, which is also one of the colors of spring. Mints, baby blue and yellow are also among them. Pastels are another one of the many big color trends for spring.

Additionally, metallic was seen a lot on the runways, from Diane von Furstenberg to Oscar de la Renta. They can definitely be a wearable trend. Try adding accents of metallic accessories, for example a belt, purse or a cute pair of shoes. Believe it or not, metallics can be neutral colors that can go with almost anything.

Black and white was a big trend on the runways, and can be easily made into a great school outfit. Try wearing a black jacket, a white shirt and black pants for some great contrast.

Wide legged pants are either a love or a hate trend. It seems like a lot of us can’t quite get out of the lure of the skinny pant. Wide legged jeans cuffed, a cool t-shirt and some combat boots can make a look more relaxed.

White is known as an intimidating color, known to bring out the worst flaws in people, but white, when worn right can be flattering. Try wearing a cute white top, a pastel skirt and white flats for another great school look.

If you don’t know where to find new items for your wardrobe check out these places. T- Shirts can be found anywhere, from any price range. Try the thrift store or Kohls. Levis and Lees are great jean brands, which can also be found easily at the thrift store. Skirts can be found inexpensively at thrift stores, and on sale.
