Q: Why Central?
A: It’s close to home; it’s a good district. I grew up in Darien and went to Hinsdale South High School. I was familiar with District 203. I knew it was good when a position opened up.
Q: Did you know Central when you were in high school? What was the reputation back then?
A: It was a good school, a big school. I played sports in high school, so it was always known as a good athletic school. I played Baseball against Central, actually.
Q: Where did you work before this?
A: I worked in West Chicago at Community High School in District 94.
Q: What made you change?
A: It was far, first of all. My position here is like a “voke”, so I teach a class on work and vocational skills. The rest of my day I’m finding volunteer job sites for the kids out in the community, so I get to leave school and go with them to work and see different stuff with them outside of the building. That was something that I was really interested in doing. The class is called Co-operative Work Training, and it was different from what I did at West Chicago. Now we have kids working at different job sites like Walgreens and Hollywood Palms.
Q: Do you see a development in the kids yet?
A: Not yet, but I mean we are getting there. We are working on some good stuff, sooner than later we will really start to get things going.
Q: What else were you involved in when you were in high school?
A: Photography and digital art, a lot of Photoshop stuff. I kind of lost touch with it when I went to college though.
Q: Any tips for the students?
A: Get involved, really. There are a lot of resources available.
Q: One thing you like about Central so far?
A: I like the people I work with, I have good, supportive co-workers and I love the students.
