Fashion: Don’t be “that girl” this spring

Brianna Reilly, Staff Writer

Keep the “daisy dukes” tucked away. Trends for Spring 2014 are mixing sassy and classy. Bright colors, high necklines and full skirts bring back a retro vibe channeling every girl’s inner Jackie Kennedy this season.

Be careful though; all of the lightweight clothes seem like a good idea until you’re committing this season’s biggest fashion faux pas.

When assembling your spring wardrobe, do yourself a favor and avoid the following: chunky flip-flops, spaghetti-strapped camisoles and Uggs with shorts.

Ladies, pick the wedge or pick the flip-flop, but do not try to combine them. If you want to give yourself a few inches all power to you, but flip-flops are not meant to do so.

What looks similar to an undergarment should not be the main attraction of your outfit. Yes I am talking about “camis.” Thicker straps and sleeves are not only more flattering, they are more practical and school appropriate. Textures, patterns and colors are a great way to attract the right kind of attention.

If your feet are so cold that they need wool boots to warm them, should you really be wearing booty shorts? Keep in mind that spring mornings are brisk and afternoons are warm. Inevitably at some point you will feel uncomfortable, whether you are too warm or too cold. No one outfit can suit such temperature changes, but we can try.

Capri’s are a great way to break out of the winter jeans and sweatpants while still staying modest. This is the perfect time to wear transitional outfits. A skinny pant can be paired with a short-sleeved shirt and a lightweight scarf. Skirts and shorts can be paired with light sweaters.  The shoe dilemma can be easily solved with gladiator sandals, converse or your favorite variation of leather boots can complete numerous spring looks.
