A fire truck arrives at Central after a fire alarm was set off by smoke in a maintenance office on Nov. 15.

A fire alarm went off at Naperville Central at 11:00 a.m. on Nov. 15 due to an excessive amount of smoke in a basement maintenance office. The cause of the smoke is currently unknown.

The fire department arrived shortly after the alarm went off. Firefighters identified the smoke’s source, cleared the school and ensured that the source of the smoke was removed.

“There was no fire, [just] smoke,” Principal Jackie Thornton said. “The building got cleared while the fire department came in and cleared the source [of the smoke].”

According to a Talk203 sent out by Thornton, the evacuation was done “quickly and calmly.”

This was the second time a fire alarm was set off at Central this year, with the first coming on Oct. 16 due to smoke from construction.
