As 2018 comes to a close, it’s time to reminisce on all of the memories made this year. Whether it’s the PyeongChang Winter Olympic Games or the United States Midterm Elections, it’s unquestionable that a lot happened in 2018. In particular, the entertainment and movie industry made huge strides this year, with some of the most anticipated movie comebacks and innovative blockbuster hits of all time. These films have gone on to win a variety of awards and encompass numerous genres. That’s why before settling down and getting ready for next year, it’s important to take a look at some of the best movies produced this year:

Action: “Avengers: Infinity War”, directed by Anthony Russo and Joe Russo

  • Rotten Tomatoes: 84%
  • IMDb: 8.5/10
  • The greatly hyped “Avengers: Infinity War” unites some of Marvel Studios’ most well-known superheroes, include Iron Man, Spider Man, the Hulk and more. Together, these heroes must try to stop the evil titan Thanos, who is intent on wiping out half of the world’s population. Even though this movie is only the first out of a two-part series,
    “Avengers: Infinity War” features some of the most thrilling action scenes and plot twists seen in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Following this film, the sequel is currently scheduled for May 2019 and will ultimately conclude the Avengers series.

Animation / Family: Incredibles 2, directed by Brad Bird

  • It’s been 14 years since the box office hit “The Incredibles”, which makes “Incredibles 2” one of the longest awaited sequels in movie history. Luckily, the movie makes up for the time it took to produce it as it features an exciting premise, plot and more! In a world where superheroes are illegal, one superhero family must stop the attacks of a hypnotic new super villain called the Screenslaver. What follows is a tale with exhilarating action, new superheroes and gadgetry, and a revitalizing musical score. Besides being an animated masterpiece, the movie also raked in a whopping $1.2 billion, making it the fourth highest grossing movie of 2018.

Horror: A Quiet Place, directed by John Krasinski

  • “A Quiet Place” is a horror movie like never heard before; it is a movie that relies utterly on sound. Set in a world overrun by mutated creatures that hunt their prey through sound, one family is forced to defeat all odds in order to survive. To this however, the family must employ numerous tactics, such as communicating through ASL and spreading a sand trail wherever they walk so they remain unnoticed. Science Fiction: Ready Player One, directed by Steven Spielberg

  • Full of past movie references and cultural easter eggs, “Ready Player One” is a cinematic and technological marvel, perfect for sci-fi lovers. The film takes place in a desolate world where the only form of entertainment is through a virtual reality program called the OASIS. After the OASIS’s sole creator dies, a virtual game is released which allows the winner to have full control over the entire virtual universe. What follows is an electrifying tale including numerous allusions to video games, films and pop culture.
