Naperville Central’s Science Olympiad team competed at the Crystal Lake Central invitational on Jan. 25.

“We did fantastic; we finally started placing in events, and we took fourth overall as a team in AA,” coach Amy Hastings said.

There were 45 schools in total, and 16 to 18 in AA Division C.

“One of the best schools from Wisconsin was there, and Stevenson was there,” Hastings said.

They compete next at regionals at COD on March 14.  Naperville North will host the event.

“We are hoping to take somewhere in the top four so we can qualify for state,” Hastings said.

Science Olympiad is an extracurricular activity at Central where students compete in different building, lab practice and testing events. All of them are science based. Examples include “Sounds of Music,” “Write It Do It,” “Boomilever” and “Anatomy and Physiology.”
