Q: What’s your name?
A: “Annika Lee.”
Q: What is your position at Central?
A: “I teach US History and World Cultures this semester, and next semester, I’ll continue teaching World Cultures and also teach World History.”
Q: What did you do before coming to Central? (jobs, educations)
A: “I went to Naperville Central for high school, so kind of coming back full circle. I then went on to get a bachelor’s degree in integrated social studies, which allows me to teach anything in the social studies field. I then went to do a master’s in curriculum and instruction with an emphasis on teaching diverse learners at Aurora University. I also have an ESL, which is teaching English language learners, and my LBS, which is teaching special education students as well. After college, I was a teacher at Geneva High School for a year, and a teacher at Yorkville High School for three years, where I taught AP Government, AP Human Geo, AP US Government, and World Cultures.
Q: What are your hobbies?
A: “I have really gotten into pickleball lately. I like tennis, hiking, and [traveling.]”
Q: What’s your favorite part about Central?
A: “I think my favorite part about Central now was the same that I really liked as a student, which is the sense of community here at Central. I truly believe that there is a place for everybody here. You just have to find your people. I feel that this school is a very inclusive place, where people can feel a sense of belonging.”
Q: What clubs or extracurriculars are you currently involved with, or hope to be involved in here at Central?
A: “I am currently a co-sponsor of Model UN right now. I would love to be involved in any other clubs that have to do with social studies. I’ve taught government for a while, so anything that helps kids get more involved in, like the civics process, I would be very interested in.”
Q: Is there anything else you would like to talk about?
A: “I am really happy to be back here at Central. It doesn’t feel like much has changed since I left, but it feels good to contribute to the community aspect from a different perspective now. Also, I am getting married in a month, so that’s exciting!”
