Hot on Netflix: ‘Unforgiven’

Drew Kanne, Staff Writer

“Unforgiven” is one of the best Westerns ever made, and in my opinion, it is Clint Eastwood’s best work as both an actor and a director.

The film follows an aging retired gunslinger as he hunts down a bounty on two men who cut up a prostitute. Eastwood plays Munny as a man still tortured by his past even though he has since reformed and is now a responsible father. Other notable performances are Morgan Freeman as Ned Logan, one of Munny’s partner from the old days, and Gene Hackman as Sheriff William “Little Bill” Dagget, another reformed gunslinger who is now a respectable sheriff who has kept his town crime free and only wants to focus on building his house.

“Unforgiven” is just as much of a drama as it is a western, and it is certainly viewed as such. It strays from the bigger Western tropes and instead follows a much darker story that adds a new, interesting dimension to the film.

The film is currently available for streaming on Netflix.
