Lana Del Rey has been teasing fans with an album since Sep. 2024, when she was supposed to release “Lasso.” Fans saw no progress until July 2024, when she released her single “Tough.”
Del Rey told fans that the album name had changed to “The Right Person Will Stay” and it would be released on May 21, 2025. Unfortunately, we will not be graced with this possibility.
Del Rey has now shared that the album will no longer be released on this date, much to my dismay. She also revealed that the title will be changing again. Del Rey gave no further details to fans.
Del Rey did release two singles from the upcoming album, “Henry, Come On” and “Bluebird.” These were released on April 11 and April 18, respectively.
“Henry” as Del Rey herself has called it, definitely feels like her, with traditional softer vocals and a melancholic mood. Some of the country does seem mildly forced, as she references a “cowgirl” and “giddy up.” It sounded similar to previous songs such as “Fingertips.” Overall, this was a solid song that definitely sets the tone for the rest of the album.
My favorite out of the two was definitely “Bluebird.” Del Rey posted a video on Instagram explaining the backstory of this song. She told listeners how someone from her past called her and asked to go on a walk with her. A little bird then slammed into her window, and she picked it up and held it. The song came to her and she began singing to the bird, and took it as a sign. The song reflects this with its whimsical guitar intro and emotional symbolic metaphorical lyrics. It feels nostalgic and reflective in the most perfect way, and it really encompasses Del Rey as an artist.
The earlier single, “Tough,” released almost a year earlier, closely resembles some of her other work with male artists like The Weeknd. Quavo added an intriguing element, and their contrasting styles did work in her favor to make this song so unique. It definitely does have a different vibe from the other singles, so I can understand why Del Rey changed course while creating the album.
Although fans are frustrated with the changes and a longer wait, I am beyond excited to see what Del Rey will create. It’s not often that modern artists make such delays and edits to truly perfect their work. These singles have proved that this album will be truly amazing, and I can’t wait for the final product.
