Naperville Central’s Boys Baseball team played a three game series against Naperville North starting on Monday, April 21 through Thursday, April 24.
While Central won the first game, Naperville North came out victorious the next two game.
“Our senior pitcher, Chase Reeder, got us off to a great start,” said head coach Mike Stock about the April 21 game.
Reeder pitched a shutout for the first time this season during Monday’s game, pitching for the complete game and not allowing North to score, going seven innings and only giving up two hits.
“I’m familiar with most of the guys on [North’s] team, so it was all about finding their weak spots,” Reeder said.
Senior Troy Kashul also hit a home run to left field during Central’s game, accounting for one of Central’s two runs that led Central to its victory. The second point came courtesy of a base hit scored by sophomore Jermaine Kenady.
“[Kenady] was able to score on a fielder’s choice,” Stock said. “[North’s] fielder got a different player at first base out, allowing Kennedy to score.”
Central lost their home game against North 6-8, and followed up with a 0-10 loss in the fifth inning on April 24.
“It’s tough going back after such a high like that, to play those next two games,” Reeder said.
The team is now sitting 1-1 in a three game series against DeKalb with an overall 12-10 record on the season.
“We need to continue playing games like [that first one], in which our pitchers throw strikes when the ball is hit,” Stock said. “We need to make plays behind them like we did against North and continue to play winning baseball.”
