If you’re in the mood to try something unique, MidiCi is the place for you. Specializing in Neapolitan-style pizza, the new restaurant puts a twist on the typical greasy and heavy pizza we’re used to eating. It opened over the summer and is located on Water Street, just across from Hotel Indigo.
With the slogan “People are the best thing that could happen to anyone,” the company’s focus is on bringing people together and creating a lively environment for customers to spend hours in.
When I walked in, the first thing I noticed were the large windows that brought in lots of natural light and two huge gold-painted ovens where the pizzas are cooked. It has a very upscale vibe to it and is a space that would be great for large groups of people.
The menu has five classic pizzas that are all priced around $8 and specialty pizzas that are around $11. The pizzas are 12 inches in diameter, and are cut into six slices. They also offer salads, cheese and meat plates, as well as gelato. They recommend that customers order their own pizza or split a pizza with friends and order a side.
“What separates us, I think, is that we are the intersection between full-service and fast casual,” owner Valerie Insignares said. “So what that means is we have a very authentic high quality product, specializing in Neapolitan style pizza. But we are in a more casual atmosphere where you are really in control of your time.”
Expecting a restaurant where people are their passion, I must say I was disappointed by their hospitality as I received no greeting, and the cashier was less than friendly.
Despite this, the food came out quickly. I ordered the white (bianca) pizza, which had fresh mozzarella, basil, olive oil and parmesan cheese, and I also added tomatoes for an extra dollar. I was very satisfied with my pizza as it was very light, crispy and not greasy in the slightest. It left me feeling full, and I loved how fresh the ingredients were.
However, the pizzas can become very pricy if you want to add more toppings to them. The toppings prices range from $1 to $3 and specialty pizzas can be on the more expensive side for teenagers.
Overall, MidiCi has great food that is very different than the typical pizza places around Naperville. It’s upscale and modern environment is for sure a draw in. Although it can get expensive, you’re paying for freshly made pizza with fresh ingredients. I wouldn’t recommend it as a regular spot or somewhere for off campus lunch, but it would be perfect for a night out with friends.
