Survey analyzes new lunch options

With the possibility of introducing new food to the school’s menus, cafeteria manager Erika Venegas and Assistant Principal Ray Jamiolkowski conducted a food survey to improve the cafeteria’s food selection.

Sodexho, the school’s food provider, conducts the survey each year. Eight students who Jamiolkowski selected to ethnically represent the student body took the survey.

Among the new choices is soy butter, an alternative to peanut butter.

“We have several students who could die from being exposed to the smallest amount of peanut butter,” Jamiolkowski said. “Soy butter has no peanuts and no tree nuts, making it safer.”

Sodexho also wants to represent the growing number of Asian students by offering more Asian foods, such as egg rolls and rice noodles, Jamiolkowski said.

“Many students and teachers do not appreciate Sodexho,” said Jamiolkowski, “but [Sodexho] is doing a great job of providing food that is safe and appealing to students.”
