Review: Look what Swift’s new song made me do

The new Taylor Swift single “Look What You Made Me Do” has generated some surprisingly strong feelings since it was released a few weeks ago. While Swift has become sort of known for getting people talking and debating, the latest discussion is more simplistic: is it a good song?

Most people I’ve talked to act outraged and seem personally offended by its existence. I don’t follow Taylor Swift very closely, but I usually like her other music, so I gave it a listen.

I think “Look What You Made Me Do” is pretty catchy and has a fun feel to it. And before everyone throws tomatoes at me, hear me out. I actually kind of like this song!

I feel like this song fulfills the purpose it was made for: to be catchy. I know there are deeper meanings in its lyrics and it is supposedly about Taylor talking to her haters and standing up for herself, and sure, some people may roll their eyes when they hear this. But if you just ignore the symbolism for a minute and simply listen to it, it’s pretty catchy. Admit it.

No matter how much you hate it, you can’t deny this. And you also have to admit that even many of the song’s biggest
haters have already caught themselves humming its chorus, or even somehow miraculously know all the lyrics after only listening to it twice.

At the end of the day, “Look What You Made Me Do” is fun and catchy. Just like all of those other Taylor Swift song you actually do like, this one also gets stuck in your head.

“Look What You Made Me Do” is the lead single for Swift’s upcoming album “Reputation,” out Nov. 10.
