No need for ice cream: The CT reviews three ice cream substitutes; Andy’s custards made fresh when ordered

Frozen custard may be similar to ice cream, but the ingredients include eggs, milk, cream and sugar, making it creamier.

The two frozen desserts are made in different ways, giving custard a smoother consistency. It is also served slightly warmer, which makes it softer and quicker to melt.

Two places you can get some good custard are Culver’s and Andy’s. Andy’s Frozen Custard, located on Weber Road in Bolingbrook, is the only establishment of the franchise from Missouri to reach Illinois thus far. There are more options on the menu at Andy’s than at Culver’s, however, because they primarily serve custard.

In fact, whenever I go there, the huge menu overwhelms me.

Some of the options include a regular cone, a “concrete” that has toppings mixed in, shakes and sundaes.

The price is usually between $4 and $10 for one person, which is a little more expensive than Culver’s, but there is more quality and quantity in Andy’s product.

There are only two options of vanilla and chocolate flavored custard, but there are many different ways to order them.

In a concrete, you can pick any toppings of candy, syrups or nuts to mix in. I usually get a small concrete because it’s not too expensive, and it’s pretty big.

At Andy’s, the custard is freshly made, constantly pouring out of machines right in front of you.

I realized when looking at the pictures of some delicious desserts on their Web site that you can’t go wrong with anything on the menu.

Andy’s is unique because there is no inside area to sit down; you go up to the window to order and eat outside under their big neon-lit awning. Also, the people working there are very friendly.

All around, I would suggest Andy’s Frozen Custard to anyone; it’s a great place to go for a tasty treat any day.
