Multicultural Club hosts annual potluck

On Oct. 24, Naperville Central’s Multicultural Club held their annual Multicultural Potluck in the Little Theatre. Students and teachers brought culturally-inspired dishes to share, and many groups performed songs and dances inspired by music from different cultures. Performances included dances from Urban Arts Club (UAC), R4IN and many individual students.

Multicultural Club sponsors Laura Starke and Samantha Christoff organized the potluck. According to Christoff, the potluck was a casual event, meant for students to go and watch performances inspired by different cultures.

“Whoever signed up and wanted to perform got the opportunity to perform,” said Christoff. “It was very casual tonight, very not-formal.”

The potluck featured performances from many student groups, including R4IN, a K-pop dance group. Members perform choreographed dances to Korean pop songs and were one of three groups invited to perform.

“For this performance, we did songs by a certain artist called BTS,” R4IN member junior Alyssa Auw said. “We also perform recently-released K-pop songs, because K-pop is a rapidly-growing industry and is constantly producing new music.”

In addition to the potluck, Multicultural Club also hosts the Multicultural Show, an audition-only fundraiser, later in the spring.
