Foreign language clubs compete in dodgeball tournament

On the morning of Oct. 19, Naperville Central’s language clubs faced off in a dodgeball tournament in the Field House.

All five of Central’s languages were represented. Latin, Spanish, French, German and Chinese Club each had their own team, while a miscellaneous team was added to accommodate bystanders that joined in but were not affiliated with any club.

The tournament was set up with three sets of teams facing off against each other. Whichever team had the most people left in the game at the end of a round moved up, while the losing team dropped down.

The tournament was a brainchild of students that the World and Classical Language department embraced.

“[Junior] Matt Kelsey brought the idea up first,” said Stacy Cunningham, Latin teacher and a coordinator of the tournament.

Kelsey is a member of Latin Club and wanted to foster some friendly inter-club competition.

“There’s been talk for years of doing Capture the Flag between Spanish Club [and Latin Club], but I thought dodgeball would be fun to do with all of the [language] clubs,” Kelsey said.

The tournament ended when the first passing period bell rang, with the members of the miscellaneous team holding the top spot.
