The 2015 Homecoming Spirit Week came to a close on Sept. 25, with a second spirit assembly. The assembly featured performances from Arrowettes, Dynasty, Urban Arts Club, the Cheer Team, Orchesis and Adapted P.E. students. In addition, the winner of the class competition was announced and the Homecoming King and Queen were crowned, along with three couples as attendants.

The assembly started with an arm-wrestle between freshman John McCormack and senior Vince Rusenas as a part of the class competition. Rusenas won, giving points to the seniors.

After performances by student groups, Spanish teacher Eric Kaisling announced the winner of the Penny Wars, a week-long competition in which students put money in their corresponding class jars. Silver coins and dollar bills count as positive points for each given class and pennies count as negative points. At the end of the week, the money was tallied and the senior class gained 100 points for their class by having the most money after subtracting any pennies. This year broke a record for the amount of money raised with $780 collected from Penny Wars. All the proceeds will go to the Children’s Memorial Hospital.

The points from the arm-wrestle and Penny Wars help the senior class to pass the freshmen and win the Homecoming Class Competition.

At the end of the assembly, the Homecoming King and Queen were crowned. The third runners-up were Carlos Garcia and Mia Jimenez, the second runners-up were Trent Graves and Stephanie Robinson and the first runners-up were Scott Piper and Eliza Perchanok. Homecoming King was Stone Cai, and Homecoming Queen was Tiffany Chen.
