“The Interview” starring Seth Rogen and James Franco hit a limited amount of theaters in the Chicago area. According to IMDb, the movie depicts a tabloid interview with North Korean dictator Kim Jong-un, which is then turned into a CIA mission to assassinate the current leader.

After threats of terror to theaters showing the film, many theater chains refused to show “The Interview” leading Sony to stop its release of the film to theaters on Dec. 25. But on Dec. 23, Sony decided to release the film to independent theaters and online platforms. Three cinemas in the area are currently showing “The Interview”, according to Fandango.

One of these theaters is Hollywood Blvd Cinema in Woodridge Ill. The movie was released on Christmas Day and was a hit at the theater.

“They sold out every show on Christmas,” said Scott Potter, Marketing Manager at Hollywood Blvd.

The day the movie was released to theaters, there was extra security as a precaution.

“We worked in conjunction with the Woodridge Police Department for [an increased] security presence,” Potter said.

This film release was one unlike others in the past.

“It was different because of the magnitude of people [that] were coming to support freedom of speech,” Potter said. “[It was] making a statement by seeing the film.”

Other theaters showing “The Interview” in the Chicagoland area are Hollywood Palms, located in Naperville and Buffalo Grove Theater in Buffalo Grove Ill.
