The Naperville Central football team was eliminated from the IHSA playoffs after a 34-20 loss in the quarterfinals to Simeon High School on Nov. 15.

The Redhawks, on their home turf, were ahead of Simeon in the first half with a score of 7-6 after senior Kevin Clifford’s 51-yard touchdown. The team continued this streak into the second half, with a second touchdown by junior Emmanuel Rugamba after a 14-yard pass from teammate Conor Joyce.

After these two Redhawk touchdowns, the Simeon Wolverines tied the game and soon scored a second touchdown. At the end of the third quarter the score was 20-13.

In the fourth quarter, Simeon scored two more times and Central once with senior Michael Kolzow’s seven-yard touchdown to end the game 34-20.

This quarterfinals appearance follows Central’s state championship from last year, and ends the Redhawks’ strong football season.
