It’s been 108 years in the making, but it finally happened: the Chicago Cubs won the World Series. The Cubs took home the trophy. Though people may have seen the trophy on TV, some got the chance to see it in person when the trophy came to Naperville.

“It was a very cool experience,” sophomore Grace Anderson said. “The environment or atmosphere of the whole thing was kind of incredible, because there were so many people and we were all there for the same purpose.”

The World Series trophy was brought to the Municipal Center in Downtown Naperville at 11 a.m. on Jan. 7. However, people were so excited to see the trophy that some waited up to 16 and a half hours to see it.

“[A] couple, who live in Carol Stream, were first in line for the 11 a.m. Saturday trophy viewing at the Municipal Center, having arrived at 6:30 p.m. on Friday to ensure they wouldn’t miss out on getting a glimpse of what many thought they’d never live to see—the Chicago Cubs win,” writes David Sharos of the Naperville Sun.

This opportunity also allowed some people to have even bigger moments in their high school news careers.

“It was very fun, it was 12 a.m. … lots of people” freshman Ryan Saran said. He also said this was his first big opportunity reporting for Hawk TV.

It allowed him to both report and see history at the same time, which he enjoyed, as Saran is a big Cubs fan too.

“When people started taking pictures with the trophy, it was quite amazing because some people would go up to the trophy with photographs of past relatives who would’ve loved to be there too,” Anderson said.
